Featured artist: Ursula Stocke

Statement:

“The human figure has always been
vessel for which I communicate through.
It allows me to address universal themes
of human emotion while discovering the
unknown in myself. Combining the figure
with symbolism, tells an open-ended
story which develops as I progress
through the painting eventually ending
with the last brush stroke. I feel the lines
of the human figure tell a story. A story
that is beautiful and complicated and
one that we all share.”

Artist’s Bio

Ursula was born and raised in Alaska.
Her family eventually moved to
Minnesota where Ursula earned a BFA
in Illustration and Fine Art from the
College of Visual Arts, in St. Paul ,
Minnesota. In 1995 she moved to the
Pacific Northwest. Dividing her time
between Seattle and Portland, eventually
settling in Seattle.

Human figure has always been the
center of her work, using oil paint as her
medium. From studio gestures to
finished poses, Ursula has always been
intrigued by the beauty of the human
form. Mixing form with symbolism, she
expresses her self through painting.
Ursula received invaluable experience
early in her carrier as a theatrical set
painter. The transition to large scale
figure painting seemed like a natural
one.  Either painting large and theatrical
or small and intimate, Ursula’s
compositions are vibrant with color,
texture and emotion.
